Meet the cloud.

Understand the building blocks before you explore storage in more detail.

What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing provides access to resources such as servers, storage, and applications over a network. A provider operates the underlying infrastructure, while customers use the resources they need.

Infrastructure as a Service

IaaS provides infrastructure such as virtual machines, networks, and storage. With a virtual machine, you typically manage the operating system and the applications you install.

Platform as a Service

PaaS provides a managed platform for deploying applications. The provider manages more of the infrastructure so you can focus on your application and content.

How does a static website work?

A static website serves prepared files to the browser. HTML defines the content, CSS controls its appearance, and JavaScript adds interactions in the browser.

This website uses those three file types. Its pages do not require a backend server, a database, or a login.

Scalability and elasticity

Scalability is the ability to handle a growing workload by increasing capacity. Elasticity is the ability to adjust capacity as demand rises and falls.
